Safeguarding against the potential cyber threat landscape
This consumer electronics retailer needed a reliable solution to protect their data. This project was time sensitive, as their previous solution – IBM Spectrum Protect – was reaching end-of-support. This had an impact on over 100 stores nationwide, as data is stored in a centralised database. Working with Outcomex, the client implemented ScaleProtect, a Commvault and Cisco solution.
Client
The client is an Australian-based consumer electronics retailer. They have over 50 years of experience providing to the Australian consumer market. After name changes and extensive marketing, they grew rapidly in the late 1990’s. During this time, they saw a significant increase in sales and nationwide expansion. Now, this award-winning retailer has a reputation for providing high-quality products and aims to have a positive impact on the wellbeing of Australians. Reaching over 100 stores, our client remains a household name in consumer electronics.
Opportunity
After significant expansion, our client’s technology environment needed to catch up with the emerging demands of a growing business. The client had been using IBM Spectrum Protect for several years, which provided scalable data protection for the clients’ data and environment.
End-of-support was announced for the IBM Spectrum Protect product, so there was a time-critical need to procure a new solution to meet the needs of the business. They chose to invest in a 3-node Cisco ScaleProtect solution. As a result, our client needed to work with a professional services provider to implement complete backup and recovery.
Solution
Outcomex worked with Commvault to provide professional services for the client, starting with a review of their data centre environment. The team ensured backup policies, architecture, and networking were established to support the three Cisco UCS S3260 Servers comprising the solution. The solution included three years of 24x7x4 onsite support. By working in partnership with Commvault, Outcomex implemented a robust solution including Commvault CommServe and web client installed and running on a VMware platform.

Impact
The end result for our client was a solution that prepared their data and security environment for the future. This project included more than 10 workloads, including databases like Oracle and Microsoft SLQ. The overall implementation encompasses important business data, including customer, product, sales transaction and business information, and applications such as Microsoft Exchange. The security posture of our client was improved, with a backup of data bases and disaster recovery.
